Description

For some time now, human medicine has focused increasingly on preventative care and how lifestyle can affect ageing progression. In veterinary medicine, we are just beginning to embrace this – a change in mobility wellness is being led by the owners of competitive sporting dogs but the basic principles apply to every canine patient. As with many diseases, we often focus on musculoskeletal problems from a ‘diagnose and treat’ point of view rather than looking at prevention. Divided into life stages, this lecture will focus on effective owner education and a review of some of the evidence we have for preventative healthcare in the canine mobility field.

Objectives

Objectives
Participants should be able to counsel owners as to appropriate exercise and environmental changes that may help reduce the incidence of injury and severity of mobility disease at various stages in their life.
