Description

This course will cover the emergency management of common disorders of blood. Using clinical cases we will discuss the emergency stabilisation, diagnostics, treatment and prognosis of haematological and haemostatic conditions including immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia, non-regenerative anaemia, thrombocytopenia and coagulopathies. In addition, transfusion medicine will be covered so that you are better able to perform transfusions in practice.

Objectives

On completion of this course the learner will be able to:
1. Describe emergency management of common disorders of blood.
2. Explain emergency stabilisation, diagnostics, treatment and prognosis of haematological and haemostatic conditions including immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia, non-regenerative anaemia, thrombocytopenia and coagulopathies.
3. Define transfusion medicine and transfusions in practice.
