Description

Nurses can use the most current guidelines to assist in the prevention and treatment of STDs. This CEU course provides updated guidelines that discuss alternative treatment regimens for Neisseria gonorrhoeae; the use of nucleic acid amplification tests for the diagnosis of trichomoniasis; alternative treatment options for genital warts; the role of Mycoplasma genitalium in urethritis/cervicitis and treatment-related implications; updated HPV vaccine recommendations and counseling messages; the management of persons who are transgender; annual testing for hepatitis C in persons with HIV infection; updated recommendations for diagnostic evaluation of urethritis; and retesting to detect repeat infection.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1.Discuss why serosorting is not recommended.

2.Explain why the use of ceftriaxone is contraindicated for certain patients.

3.Investigate the symptoms and signs of acute retroviral syndrome.

4.Examine the preferred drug for treating persons in all stages of syphilis.

5.Identify the therapy that should be provided for patients who have severe HSV disease or complications that necessitate hospitalization.

6.Describe the most common cause of persistent or recurrent NGU and the recommended treatment.
