Description

The short- and long-term health implications for patients, in combination with increased mortality rates, make recognizing and effectively responding to sexual violence against older adults an important responsibility of all health care professionals. This CEU course assists health care providers in meeting their professional obligations in identifying and providing intervention and treatment to older victims of sexual violence.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Enumerate characteristics of family members that may raise suspicion for sexual abuse.

2. Explain why the patient’s history should be gathered separate from other individuals.

3. Investigate the reasons that keep many older adults from reporting their abuse.
