Description

In this monograph, CMHS (Center for Mental Health Services) examines the role self-disclosure plays in reducing stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness.

Also approved for Ethics credit by the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Identify factors that may facilitate the self-disclosure of a mental illness as well as benefits and costs of disclosing.

2. Examine the role self-disclosure plays in reducing stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness.

3. Review current literature pertaining to self-disclosure, including techniques for revealing personal information.

4. Discuss considerations and strategies for disclosure in an employment setting and among mental health professionals.
