Description

Childhood maltreatment represents a significant risk factor for psychopathology. This advanced CEU course provides the neuroendocrine findings for the association between maltreatment and atypical development of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis stress response.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Explain the vulnerability hypothesis.

2. Investigate the genes for which linkage and association studies have implicated variants within the etiology of PTSD, depression, and antisocial behavior.

3. Elucidate what GxE research has suggested about how the environment influences risk for psychopathology and resiliency.

4. Identify the brain region that has been shown to be particularly susceptible to structural change following abuse during the adolescent period.
