Description

Gout is a painful inflammatory condition that can affect a variety of joints, causes significant distress and is associated with a number of comorbidities. This learning module aims to dispel the myths surrounding this condition and explore the pathogenesis, clinical presentation, risk factors and diagnosis. It also describes the treatment options and lifestyle changes that can reduce the effects of this condition and the incidence of reoccurring episodes.

Objectives

The aim of this module is to increase readers’ understanding of the clinical presentation, treatment and management of gout, a painful inflammatory condition. Detailed knowledge and understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of gout are essential to understand the condition and manage patients. Lifestyle changes that can reduce the effects of the condition and the incidence of flares are described.

On completion of this course you will gain an understanding of:
Recognize the signs and symptoms of gout and management strategies of these patients.
