Description

In many instances, outbreaks and other adverse events are associated with breakdowns in basic infection prevention procedures. All healthcare settings, regardless of the level of care provided, must make infection prevention a priority and must be equipped to observe Standard Precautions. This CEU course provides a summary guide of infection prevention recommendations for outpatient settings and the minimum infection prevention expectations for safe care in ambulatory care settings.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Explain what Standard Precautions are and give examples of these precautions.

2. Investigate unsafe practices that have led to patient harm.

3. Identify when use of an alcohol-based hand rub should and should not be the mode of hand hygiene in healthcare settings.

4. Provide key situations where hand hygiene should be performed.
