Description

This CEU course provides nurses with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's standards for bloodborne pathogen exposure incidents, Hepatitis B vaccination protection, personal protective equipment to reduce exposure to bloodborne pathogens, protection when handling contaminated sharps, and securing medical catheters.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Discuss what OSHA's bloodborne pathogens standard requires.

2. Enumerate for which bloodborne pathogens post-exposure prophylaxis, when medically indicated, must be offered to any exposed nurse.

3. Investigate under what conditions nurses must decontaminate working surfaces and equipment with an appropriate disinfectant.

4. Describe when a nurse may forego use of personal protective equipment.
