Description

Health care providers and others employed within health care facilities will learn about infection control measures including precautions, transmission-based (isolation) precautions, handwashing, personal protective equipment, sterilization, and disinfection.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Describe basic infection control measures, including the importance of handwashing

2. Discuss clean (uncontaminated) versus dirty (contaminated) equipment and supplies and how to handle each

3. Explain the difference between standard precautions and transmission-based precautions and when to use each

4. Review how and when to use personal protective equipment (PPE).

Jessica Barker, BSN, RN, has worked in hospital, clinic, and educational settings. She is currently a nurse, clinical instructor, and Health Science teacher at the high school level in Tennessee. Previously, Jessica worked as a registered nurse at jackson-Madison Country General Hospital-West Tennessee Healthcare and as a registered nurse physician extender at TransSouth Health Care Digestive Disease Center in jackson, Tennessee.

Jessica earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Union University in jackson, Tennessee, and a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Lamar University.
