Description

This overview course gives detailed information of causes and treatments for jaundice in the breastfeeding newborn.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Discuss the incidence of hyperbilirubinemia

2. Describe the physiology of bilirubin metabolism and excretion.

3. Discuss the difference between physiologic and non-physiologic jaundice.

4. Identify 5 risk factors for jaundice.

5. Define kernicterus and bilirubin encephalopathy.

6. Discuss appropriate lactation treatment modalities for the late preterm and full term infant.

7.Discuss the IBCLC's role in the management of jaundice of the newborn 35 weeks and more.
