Description

This course covers the causes and treatments of engorgement, mastitis, abscesses and galactoceles.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Differentiate between physiologic and pathologic engorgement.

2. Identify signs and symptoms of mastitis, plugged ducts, nipple blebs and galactoceles.

3. Provide support and counseling for the mother who is experiencing these problems.

Vergie Hughes has a long history of experience in Maternal Child Health including labor and delivery, post-partum and pediatrics, and for the past 25 years she has been involved in lactation management. Ms Hughes has a BSN from Pacific Lutheran University and a MS from Georgetown University. She has been a board certified lactation consultant since 1985.
