Description

This course describes efforts to enhance the understanding of the biological and nonbiological causes of cancer health disparities, increase the diversity of the cancer research workforce and reduce the unequal burden of cancer in the United States.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Identify the most common cancer in young children.

2. Become familiar with the use of the injectable contraceptive and the associated risk of breast cancer.

3. Enumerate all of the different ways that CNP funded studies have impacted the science community.

4. Define biobanks and how they are used.

Sanya A. Springfield is Director of the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI's) Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities (CRCHD) where she supports programs, initiatives, and activities to spawn cancer health disparities research, increase workforce diversity and create networks for community outreach, education and engagement. Within NCI, Dr. Springfield is a member of the Scientific Program Leadership (SPL) where she champions the need for continued investment for diversity training and education programs and to reduce cancer health disparities.
