Description

Applied psychology is the second branch of contemporary psychology and incorporates educational psychology, industrial psychology, clinical psychology and health psychology. Each of these is described as are a number of other miscellaneous types of psychology that do not fit neatly into the academic/applied categories. By the end of class number 3 the student should have a thorough understanding of: (i) the history of psychology, and (ii) the nature and scope of contemporary psychology.

Objectives

After completing this class the student should be able to do the following:
1. Describe the various areas of Applied Psychology.

2. Illustrate the miscellaneous categories of Psychology that do not fall into the Academic or Applied categories.

3. Differentiate between the different descriptions of Psychology.

4. Explain the precise nature and scope of Psychology.

Mr Fergus McGrath (eolach.ie)

Fergus has a first class honours degree in Psychology and a Higher Diploma in Computer Science. He is also an experienced teacher and a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. Fergus collated his interests and achievements to develop e-learning courses that are designed as continuing education activities. Fergus has also developed a new approach to mental health and wellbeing called the YANA approach. This incorporates a theoretical outline and a series of bespoke practical activities. Fergus is passionate about both mental health and education and he invites you to share his journey.
