Description

Anger is pervasive in a world of stress. This is a study of the energetic, mental, emotional and physical components of the anger complex (fear, anger, shame, guilt, and grief), with a consideration for both destructive and constructive processing. It is written from the assumption that all of us are learning about our own anger all of the time. Thus, the material can be applied personally, or used when assisting another person with their anger issues.

Objectives

Objectives
Identify the interrelationship between anger, fear, judgment, control, shame and guilt, and how resistance thwarts the resolution of the underlying conflicts.

Relate unconscious anger to the defense mechanisms of suppression, repression, avoidance and denial.

Relate the emotion of anger to the physical responses of the body, and the resulting physical symptoms.

Recognize how destructive anger contributes to disease.

Read about anger as a physically addictive process and consider common therapeutic interventions in light of this interpretation.

Consider short-term strategies for dealing with anger.

Employ the elements of conflict resolution as a response to the information supplied by anger.

Review a variety of approaches that can be used when helping another person with their long-term, unresolved anger issues.

Review thoughts that help us stayed centered when anger is directed at us.
