Historical review of nurse practice acts and nursing boards. Comprehensive discussion of Chapters 456 and 464 of the Florida Statutes and Division 64B9 of the Florida Administrative Code. Description of the disciplinary process and the alternatives to discipline provided through the Florida Intervention Project for Nurses. Discussion of ethical decision making and the relationship of ethics and the law.

Distinguish between the general provisions of the Florida Statutes and the rules that cover practice for Florida nurses and nursing assistants.

Summarize the grounds for discipline, due process procedures, and alternatives to discipline for nurses in the State of Florida.

Discuss the way in which medical ethics differs from the law.

Lauren Robertson, BA, MPT And Susan Walters Schmid, PhD

Lauren Robertson earned a BA in Biology from Mills College in Oakland, California, and a Master's degree in Physical Therapy from the University of California at San Francisco. Lauren is the founder and co-owner of ATrain Education (atrainceu.com) and she has written or co-written more than two hundred courses on a wide range of topics for her continuing education website. She is certified as a trainer on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs

Susan Schmid earned BA degrees in History and European Studies from George Mason University, a Master's degree in Public History from Appalachian State University, and a PhD in History from Arizona State University. In addition to her PhD she earned a Certificate in Scholarly Publishing from ASU. Susan has served as an editor for several scholarly presses. She worked as a desktop publishing specialist for Arizona State University and taught several courses for the History Department as well as "Introduction to Scholarly Publishing" and "Scholarly Editing" for the Scholarly Publishing Program.
