Description

This course will explore the concept of ethical behavior and will allow learners to analyze their own values and to consider barriers to behaving ethically in the workplace. The course also includes a discussion of health care professionals ethical statements and the common attributes shared by all of them.

Objectives
Identify multiple professional health organizations ethical statements and/or positions. Explore common attributes among professional health organization statements and/or positions. Discuss the concept of ethics and values in relation to ethical behavior. Explore barriers to ethical behavior within the health care environment. Evaluate the challenges to practicing ethically that exist in a specific health care environment.

Karen Ainsworth Landry, PhD, RN; Adam S. Burston, MSN, RN, MACN

Karen Ainsworth Landry, PhD, RN received her PhD in Nursing Science from Texas Woman’s University, her Master and Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing from Northwestern State University in Shreveport, Louisiana. Dr. Landry has taught nursing since 1995. Her work focuses in the area of ethics, quality of life, and interprofessional health care education and simulation. Adam S. Burston, MSN, RN, MACN is a lecturer at the Australian Catholic University and a PhD candidate at the University of Queensland with nursing experience in aged and acute care (surgical). Mr. Burston currently teaches in tertiary education, in a variety of nursing and multi-disciplinary units including ethics.
