Description

This program will help prepare dialysis facility care providers with appropriate training in understand the nutrition care of the dialysis patients. The program is designed to prepare the participant for testing as a hemodialysis technician or nurse and/or to provide an overview of the nutrition care for dialysis patients.

Objectives

At the end of this E-learning, the learner will be able to:
Objective 1:
Discuss the tools used for managing the nutrition needs of patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
Objective 2:
Identify nutritional problems experienced by patients with kidney disease.
Objective 3:
Describe nutrition interventions for these patients.

Lesley McPhatter, MS, RD, CSR

Lesley is the Assistant Clinical Nutrition Manager for Morrison Healthcare of Renal Nutrition with the University of Virginia Dialysis Services In this position; she manages thirteen renal dietitians in nine clinics throughout UVA Dialysis Services. In addition, she provides direct consult for patients on hemodialysis, nightly home hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis and coordinates Nutrition Quality Assessment Performance Indicators for her facility and UVA Renal Services. UVA has one of the oldest home nocturnal dialysis programs in the United States and provides home hemodialysis care to the majority of their home patients.

Lesley received BS and MS Degrees in Dietetics from James Madison University and is credentialed as a Certified Specialist in Renal with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
