Description

This course will offer the healthcare provider a better understanding of the key issues in providing mechanical ventilation.

Objectives

At the end of the course the participant will be able to:
Objective 1:
Identify the 4 key issues in providing mechanical ventilation.
Objective 2:
Explain how to provide a proper balance between lung protection and ventilator settings.
Objective 3:
Adjust the ventilator tidal volume according to ideal body weight.
Objective 4:
Assess the presence of overdistention in a ventilator patient.
Objective 5:
Determine the oxygenation status of ventilator patient.
Objective 6:
Adjust the FIO2 based on prediction equation.
Objective 7:
Explain the basic modes of mechanical ventilation
Objective 8:
Clarify the difference between a mode and strategy.
Objective 9:
Describe the considerations for ventilator discontinuance.
Objective 10:
Summarize ventilator information and current status to physicians making rounds.
