Description

Kidney Disease and Cardiovascular Disease: The Perfect Storm is a visual online presentation intended to educate novice nurses and nurses new to cardiovascular care about the devastating effects of both kidney and cardiovascular disease, and to raise nurses’ awareness of the devastating combination of the two. The presentation’s content accommodates the visual learner and contains minimal but impactful wording. Presented in Microsoft’s PowerPoint, the presentation is accessible via desktop and all mobile devices.

Objectives

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
Objective 1:
Nurses will identify causes and risk factors that contribute to kidney disease.
Objective 2:
Nurses will explain the effects of kidney disease on the cardiovascular system
Objective 3:
Nurses will apply content of presentation to assist patients in implementing healthcare strategies to prevent, decrease, or control risk factors for kidney and cardiovascular disease.

Ms Maria Baptiste MSN APRN-BC NP-C CCRN-CMC

Maria Baptiste is a cardiothoracic advance practice nurse. Her previous experience includes advance practice nursing in cardiology and in primary care services. Prior to becoming an advanced practice nurse she was an emergency department nurse.

Ms. Baptiste has been an adjunct and didactic faculty member in several traditional nursing programs and she has served as adjunct nursing faculty in online e-learning RN to BSN and MSN nursing programs.

Ms. Baptiste is a contributor to several healthcare publishers serving as content writer, reviewer, and developmental editor of nursing, medical, and patient educational material for online and print literature and tutorials. She also writes independently: her most recent article, “Discrimination: The Silent Stressor of Internationally Educated Nurses Working in the United States” was published in American Nurses Association’s Online Journal of Issues in Nursing in 2015.

Ms. Baptiste is certified as an advance practice nurse in both acute care and adult health. She is also certified in critical care nursing and holds subspecialty certification in cardiac medicine.

Ms. Baptiste obtained her Diploma/Associates in Nursing from Trinitas School of Nursing and Union County College in New Jersey. She completed her BSN at New Jersey City University, and her MSN at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. In 2015 she completed her certification in editing at New York University.
