I could not properly take the examination at the end of the course because I could not locate the 'appendix' with the photographs of interest while simultaneously taking the exam.

Description

This course provides an introduction to normal bone including endochondral, membranous ,medullary, and pneumonic bone. Gross images and virtual slides provide materials to illustrate normal features and angular deformities.

Objectives

Features of Normal Bone
Identify normal bone
Features of Endochondral Bone in Young Birds
Identify the cartilaginous core in birds less than two weeks of age.
Regions of proximal long bones
Identify epiphysis and regions in physis.
Regions below physis
Identify metaphysis, diaphysis, cortex, bone marrow.
Angular Deformaties
Identify tibial rotation, varus, and valgus deformities.

Dr. Fletcher is a Professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine at NC State. He is a Diplomate of the ACVP and a founder diplomate of the ACPV. His area of interest is avian histopathology and he is the editor of the 3rd edition of Avian Histopathology.
