Description

Supply chain transparency is of paramount importance if you are to avoid sourcing products made by exploited children and adults. But how do you know? This seminar explores the issues in the handmade rug sector and how you can ensure the rugs you source are ethically produced.

Objectives

To gain an understanding of how to ethically source handmade rugs
To highlight the issues surrounding child and slave labour in the hand-made rug sector and inform regarding the international GoodWeave rug labelling scheme and how it provides supply chain transparency.

I have spent the last 25 years working in the interiors sector – specialising in marketing. Following a career working for UK and global corporations in the carpet, ceramic, cosmetic and stationery sectors, I established a consultancy Dixon Handley Marketing. In 2004, I joined the charity GoodWeave UK as a Board Member (2004 - 2008) before assuming responsibility for marketing and communications. Working with GoodWeave has opened my eyes to the beauty of handmade rugs but also the gross injustices for many who produce them. It’s a mismatch which is indefensible and one which can be eradicated with all our help.
