Dr David Kading is the CEO and clinic director for both of Specialty Eyecare Group’s Seattle and Kirkland practices. As an innovator in eyesight, he strives to make people see the best that they can, whether through vision correction or preventing future disease.

Dr. Kading grew up in South Dakota and attended South Dakota State University before coming to the West Coast for his graduate training at Pacific University and a postgraduate residency in cornea and contact lenses. He has achieved fellowship status in the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and is the only optometrist in Washington to have Fellowship status in the Contact Lens Society of America (FCLSA).

Specialty Eyecare Group provides full service eyecare, with each of the four doctors trained in a different specialty in order to provide comprehensive eyecare to the standard eye exam patient or the patient referred from an outside provider.

Dr. Kading specializes in customizing vision through the use of non-standard contact lenses and also in front of the eye diseases in western Washington’s most advanced dry eye clinic. His referral-based practice has global notoriety, with patients from as far away as Iran.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Kading spends nearly 50% of his time helping the industry, optometric associations, and other doctors to change patients’ lives. His career coaching company, Optometric Insights, helps to accelerate the success of young practitioners. He has lectured in 38 states and 4 continents on a wide range of eyecare and healthcare topics. He works with 15 of the top eyecare and healthcare companies, consulting on how to become more effective at helping patient and eye disease outcomes.

Dr. Kading is the immediate past chair of education for the Optometric Physicians of Washington and was president and board member of the King Country Optometric Association from 2011-14. In 2013, he was awarded the Young Optometrist of the Year for Washington State. Last month he was recognized nationally as one of the 50 most influential optometrists of all time by his peers.
