Description

The past few years have brought remarkable technological advancements in contact lens materials, designs, and care. In particular, there has been a re-emergence in scleral gas permeable contact lenses, necessitating new paradigms for the handling, insertion, removal, and care of these lenses. This lecture will present detailed information on caring for gas permeable and specialty soft contact lenses, including optimal solution components for filling, cleaning and disinfecting the lenses.

Susan Gromacki, OD, MS, FAAO

Dr. Susan J. Gromacki has been named to 'America's Best Optometrists,' the Marquis Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the World, and The Leading Health Care Professionals of the World (International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England). In practice for over 19 years, she graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame and The Ohio State University College of Optometry and completed a residency in hospital-based optometry with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. An internationally-recognized clinician, educator, and author, she has presented over 400 professional lectures and publications and serves as Contributing Editor of Contact Lens Spectrum, Review of Cornea and Contact Lenses, and CL Today. She is a Diplomate in the Cornea, Contact Lenses and Refractive Technologies section and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She serves on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, writing and overseeing the written examinations that ensure the qualifications of new optometrists to enter practice. Formerly a faculty member of the New England College of Optometry and the University of Michigan Medical School, Department of Ophthalmology, where she directed the Contact Lens and Low Vision Clinics, she specializes in difficult-to-fit contact lenses, refractive surgery, low vision and anterior segment disease.
