Description

Examination of the rigid lens wearing patient after a time of wearing their lenses is important. This course covers the suggested examination schedule and tests that should be performed. Symptoms and their causes are covered. The course also explains and illustrates many problems that can with rigid lens wear. Such problems as surface deposits, frothing, lens damage, edema, peripheral corneal staining, arc staining, foreign body staining, polymegethism, refractive changes and lens adherence are explained and illustrated.

Objectives
The objective of the course is for the student to understand the tests that should be performed in an aftercare examination. In addition, to be able to identify problems through the case history and objective examination as well as the causes and methods of correcting the problems.

Dr Gerald Lowther O.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Lowther has spent his career providing patient care in the area of contact lenses, teaching contact lens courses in university settings, doing clinical research and lecturing internationally. He is past president of the American Academy of Optometry, National Board of Examiners in Optometry and the International Society for Contact Lens Research. He has published over 100 research papers and authored three books and numerous chapters in other books. He has received numerous awards. He retired from the School of Optometry at Indiana University as dean.
